A Tribute From Her Daughter

In Loving Memory

Anna McCormick

Mom never wanted anyone to go hungry – physically, mentally or spiritually!  I learned the immense blessing of serving others in His name.

We didn’t have much by today’s standards but always had enough to share with others!  She made giving as much fun as receiving, even during those “terrible toddler” years.

When I was 8 Mom didn’t want me home alone after school, but I was quite firm that I was “too old for a babysitter.”  She made arrangements for me to help our neighbor in the same building who had 4 children younger than I and another on the way.  The 50cents a week I earned was enough to keep me in ice cream sandwiches from the school cafeteria – as you can see J  She taught the value of work and community.

“A job worth doing is worth doing well!”  As a teen I hated that phrase, now I love it!  Persistence and patience are required to fulfill God’s plans for us.

Mom always found time and room for relatives and friends.  She loved to make us meals and treats and help find stuff to build living room forts on rainy days.  There were always plenty of books to read and music to listen to – or play!  I still can’t believe how that upright piano was put in our living room, up 5 flights of stairs.  “Where there’s a will, there’s a way” was a true statement in our house!  Family (and friends) always came first.

Anna was born in 1923 in Berkley Springs, West Virginia to her parents Zourie Cleopatra Grove and Charles E. Michael along with 4 siblings. In 1927 her family moved to the Washington D.C. area and in 1944 she married her late husband Howell (Hal) McCormick. She worked a long career with multiple companies before retiring at the age of 83. She will be missed.

There will be a life celebration held at her church - Immanuel Bible Church in the next coming weeks.
