Dorethe Whitehead Hagerty, age 71, of Falls Church, VA passed away November 9 due to complications from Multiple Sclerosis. She is survived by her brother, James Whitehead and her two children, William Hagerty and Katherine Hanckel, and her granddaughter Charlotte Hanckel.
Dorethe grew up in Washington, D.C. and attended the National Cathedral School, class of 1969. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Carnegie Mellon in 1973 and worked as a buyer at Garfinkle’s and then as an Independent Sales Representative. From there she worked for Copenhaver Fine Stationers and Engravers in Washington. In 1983 she married James Alexander Hagerty. They were married for 33 years and had two children. Dorethe was a member of the Colonial Dames of America and an avid movie lover.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorethe's memory may be made to the National Cathedral School or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
A memorial service will be held at Every Funeral Home in Falls Church, Virginia on Saturday, December 10 at 10a, followed by a reception. Masks are required. All are welcome. Dorethe loved pink. Feel free to honor her by wearing color.
