“Liz, Sissy, Mom, Grandma, Aunt Elizabeth”

February 7th 1937 – January 19th 2021

Elizabeth Joan was born in Gary, Indiana.  Went to Indiana University where she met the love of her life, Jerry Korcak, her first night on campus.  After graduation, they married, she taught school and Jerry finished four years in the Air Force as a flight surgeon.  They joined the U.S. Department of State and traveled the world together having four children and many adventures along the way. One of those being evacuated from their first post in Taiz Yemen in the belly of a military aircraft with two small children, an infant and a dog.  They then lived in Laos, suburban Washington DC; Vienna, Austria; Rangoon, Burma; Manilla, Philippines and Mexico City.  After an exciting career in the Foreign Service, she and Jerry retired to their home in Northern Virginia in 1991 and they welcomed four grandchildren with great joy.  She has lived a blessed life and has been a blessing to all who knew her.  She was truly a saint that walked this earth, a faithful wife, devoted to her family, self-sacrificing, a disciplined communicator, with a quiet, strong faith in God.  Our Matriarch.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Jerome Michael Korcak; four children, Elizabeth Ellen, Jerome Matthew (Lesley), Laura Sharon Jacknin (Sam) and John Michael (Melissa); four grandchildren, Dillon Noah Jacknin, Grace Ellen Jacknin, Blake Robert Korcak and Presley (Isabel) Elizabeth Korcak; siblings, John Andrew Mihok (Mary) and Sharon Ann Whelan (Joe); nieces and nephews, Alison, Andy and Sarah Whelan and John Kevin Mihok, Deborah Mihok Pollard and Nicole Mihok Collins. 

             Elizabeth Joan joins her mother and father, Elizabeth and John Mihok in heaven.
