October 27, 1941 ~ December 3, 2022 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

Judy Beim, beloved wife and mother of two, passed away at the age of 81 on December 3, 2022 at Fort Belvoir Hospital after an extended battle with bone marrow failure disorder (MDS) that progressed to leukemia. Judith Ann Chamberlin was born October 27, 1941 in Dayton, Ohio, the first child of Luther C. and Jeanne E. (Wisenberger) Chamberlin. She married the love of her life, Alexander Beim, on June 8, 1962, and the couple celebrated their 60th diamond wedding anniversary this year. Judy was preceded in death by her son Peter in 2021. She is survived by her husband Al, son Alex (Deena), daughter-in-law Kay, granddaughters Brittany (Taylor) and Kira, siblings Tom (Connie) and Barbara (Richard), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Judy was a 1959 graduate of Beavercreek High School near Dayton where she played the glockenspiel in the marching band. She attended Peabody College in Nashville for a year before transferring to Ohio State University in Columbus where she met her husband. After Judy and Al married in 1962, she was a resourceful wife who managed the Beim family home and raised her sons while her husband served as a career military officer. Despite being legally blind due to retina damage as an infant, she was able to bicycle or ride her moped to carry out the family errands.

Judy was active with her sons’ scouting troops and volunteered for the Army Community Service. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, reading novels, completing crossword puzzles, playing the piano, and watching the games of her favorite sports teams. The Beim family was stationed in the Netherlands for three years, and after Al’s military retirement, he and Judy continued to travel regularly to Germany, the Bahamas, and around the world. Judy especially loved international cuisine and she and Al co-authored several cookbooks focused on their love of food. A favorite annual family tradition was to make kulich (Russian Easter bread) to share with family and friends. Judy was loved by many and will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who are able make a donation to the MDS Foundation (MDS-foundation.org) or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS.org).
