Major John Joseph Anderson, USAF (ret.), passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2023, in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. He was the son of the late John Marcus and Sabra Carnley Anderson, and step-son of the late Lillian Carroll Anderson. As the son of a military father, he was born in Panama and grew up in Hawaii, New Mexico, and other locations in the US. John went to the US Naval Academy and upon graduating in 1955, began his career in the Air Force. He served faithfully for twenty-one years before retiring. During those years he was stationed at various bases in Germany and in the United States and was also on the Gemini Support Team, Manned Spacecraft Center at NASA, in Houston, TX. Upon retirement he worked for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, various self-employment ventures and the Clinton Fence Company. Family was always very important to John and many great memories were made riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and entertaining around the family pool in Clinton, MD with his large/extended family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mae, and is survived by five children, Marc, Mike, Mary, Kevin, and Brian, their spouses, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Fr. Edward Anderson, sister-in-law Chris Maginnis, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A memorial service and inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
