Mary Frances “Mae” Anderson, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2020, in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Agnes Masterson Maginnis. She is survived by her loving husband John of 65 years, and five children, Marc, Mike, Mary, Kevin, and Brian, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Edward Anderson, sister-in-law Chris Maginnis, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mae married John upon his graduation from The United States Naval Academy in June 1955. As a military wife, she traveled with him to bases in Germany and throughout the US, all while raising a family of five children. She was very active in The Officer’s Wives Club, was a docent at the National Air and Space Museum, and was an accomplished ceramicist and acrylic painter. After settling in Clinton, MD, just outside of Washington, DC, Mae graduated from Prince George’s Community College then embarked on a career in the Civil Service. Mae loved her family, was a fierce board game competitor, and created decades of memories for the extended family who showed up on Sundays for cookouts and pool parties at her home. A memorial service and internment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
