Melisa van Hoek, January 17, 1958- May 30, 2023

Melisa (Lisa) van Hoek was born January 17, 1958 in Dayton, Ohio to Dr. Robert van Hoek and Kathleen (Miller) van Hoek.  At the time of her birth, Dr. van Hoek was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base but Lisa grew up in Kensington, Maryland. Lisa attended the University of Maryland before transferring to the University of Indiana where she graduated with her Bachelors of Fine Arts.  Subsequently she attended Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn and studied at the University of Maastricht in Holland before returning to NYC and later Virginia.  In her later years she was a caregiver for her father.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Kathleen van Hoek.  She is survived by her sister Karin van Hoek, M.D. of Santa Barbara, CA and her brother Robert Keith van Hoek, A.I.A. of Arlington, VA.  Lisa and her family enjoyed annual trips to Rehoboth and Bethany Beaches and various ski trips.  She will be remembered for her passion for painting and art.  To honor and remember Melisa, please buy a piece of art from a local artist so you can remember Melisa whenever you enjoy the artwork.
