Nancy Lee Wagner

November 16, 1929 ~ June 1, 2020 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Tribute

Nancy Lee Wagner, wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother extraordinaire, died June 1, 2020 in Fairfax, Virginia. Following declining health, she succumbed to the ravaging effects of COVID-19.  She lived a long and full life and we are grateful for the many years we had with her.

Nancy is survived by her son Craig Steven Wagner of Fairfax Station, VA and daughter Cathy Lee Whitlow of Sterling, VA.  She leaves a loving family including daughter in law Barbara Cookson Wagner, son in law Kenneth David Whitlow; her grandchildren; Lindsey Wagner Witham, Matthew Steven Wagner, Ryan Christopher Wagner, Austin Stran Wagner, Victoria Jane Whitlow Lyness and Chase Wagner Whitlow; great-grandchildren; Rory Ann Witham, Harrison Matthew Christopher Witham, Brooke Anne Wagner and Bruce Field Lyness.

We take solace in her being united with her late husband John (Jack) Jacob Wagner and son Christopher Stran Wagner in God’s kingdom of heaven.

Born Nancy Lee Stran, November 16, 1929, she grew up in Baltimore, MD, met her future husband and married in 1950.  Jack and Nancy lived in Catonsville, MD, Kinston, NC, Richmond, VA, Pompano Beach, FL and Milwaukee, WI before settling into a home in Randallstown, MD; moving to Virginia almost 20 years ago to be closer to their family.

She loved her family, her friends, and her church.  A life-long Lutheran, her faith was important in her daily life. St. James Lutheran Church in Rockville, MD was her church home for over 30 years.  Most recently she was a member of Community Lutheran Church in Sterling, VA where well into her 80’s she participated in many groups of service and fellowship.

She loved reading, gardening, playing cards, taking bus trips with Loudoun County Seniors, having tea or coffee with her neighbors at Cascades Village Apartments and Friday night Scrabble.  Her most profound joy came from spending time with her growing family, attending her grandchildren’s sport events, birthdays, graduations, weddings and most recently the welcoming of the next generation, her great grandchildren.

Due to the pandemic, a memorial service will be limited to immediate family. Your prayers and thoughts are welcomed as we grieve our loss.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Community Lutheran Church, 21014 Whitfield Place, Sterling, VA 20165.

Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim

till all the world adore his sacred name.

O Lord, once lifted on the glorious tree,
your death has brought us life eternally.
