Paul L. Hirt

Paul LeRoy Hirt, age 97, passed away at his home in Falls Church on
Saturday, August 10, 2019.  Paul was born in East Jordan, MI on 16 August
1921 to the late Christian P. Hirt and Marinda Boals Hirt, the third of
eight children.  He left Michigan at the age of 19 to join the Marines,
rising to the rank of Lt Colonel.  A veteran of WWII and Korea, Paul was
a proud member of the Marine Mustang Association and the Chosin Few, among
others.

After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1964, Paul went on to have a
distinguished career as a telecommunications engineer, working at Computer
Sciences Corporation (CSC), Calculon, and he later served as Vice
President of Hirt Telecom Corporation.  His post-retirement life included
many cruises, dancing at various venues around Northern Virginia, and
activities with the “Prime Timers” of Pender United Methodist Church.
Paul is pre-deceased by his parents, his brothers, Kenny, Billy, Al, and
Doyle, and his wives, Patricia Duggan Hirt (deceased 1992), and Irene Toth
Hirt (deceased 2010).

He is survived by his friend and companion, Ruth Wheeler, of Fairfax, VA,
three sons, Paul L. Hirt, Jr. (Donna) of Salem, OR, James Duggan “Dug”
Hirt (Jenny) of Arlington, VA, and Timothy T. Hirt (Ksenia) of Germany,
nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by
his brothers Bob and Ron, his sister, Marjorie (Midge), and numerous
nieces and nephews.  Paul was especially grateful for the loving care of
his niece, Kimberly Fox, during the last several years.

Paul will be remembered for his warm smile, his love of dancing, and his
adoration of all desserts, especially ice cream.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Pender United Methodist Church on
August 24th at 11:00 am to be followed by inurnment at Arlington National
Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests
