Sergio F. Castro Jr., 58, passed away peacefully at home on Monday May 14, 2018. Born July 7, 1959, in Havana Cuba, he was the beloved son of the late Sergio Castro Sr. and Onaida Castro.
At a young age Sergio came to the United States and grew up in Falls Church, Virginia where he received his education in Fairfax County Public Schools, met his first love, married, and had two daughters; Kim and Shannon.
At the age of 14 Sergio began learning to cook at a Mexican restaurant, and cooking became his passion and eventual profession, spending most of his years as a chef. He enjoyed watching football and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. Known as the family “Elvis,” Sergio loved singing, listening to, and dancing to Elvis’ music. He also enjoyed playing softball, shooting pool, playing darts, bowling, dancing, and large weekly family gatherings and outings. Sergio had a huge heart and loved his children, grandchildren, and family unconditionally.
In addition to his parents, Sergio is predeceased by his second wife, Maryann Castro.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Two daughters, Kimberly Castro and Shannon (Aaron) Loving; Two grandsons, Christopher Shifflet and Tyler Shifflet; Two granddaughters, Hailey Loving and Harper Loving; A sister, Clementina (Dennis) Weiblinger; A nephew, Dylan Weiblinger; Two brothers, David (Erin) Castro and Luis (Sylvia) Castro; A godmother, Susana Isabel Perez Rivero, and her husband Ismar Martin. He is also survived by his first true love, first wife, and lifelong best friend, Nancy Hurd, as well as a host of uncles and cousins.
A visitation for Sergio will be held on Friday May 18 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Everly Funeral Home in Falls Church.
