Tribute

Sheila Catherine Faulkner, 89, of Falls Church, passed away on June 6 from complications of COPD. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, William Faulkner, daughters, Lisa O’Hara, Kimbal Trahan, Gillan Waugh, six grandchildren, her brother Niel Spillane, two nephews and a niece. She was raised in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY by her parents, Treva, and Joseph Spillane. After working at Young & Rubicam in NYC, she took a job at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, DC where she met her future husband. Together, they raised their children in Iraq, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Laos, Tanzania, and Falls Church. They also traveled throughout Europe, China, Newfoundland, and the U.S. During much of her government career, she was the office manager and scientific conference meeting planner at the US Naval Observatory, Time Management Services. She was highly intelligent and not reluctant to speak her mind. She was creative, with a particular passion and talent for making and collecting miniatures. She was a member of the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts, and an editor of its Tiny Tattler publication. She was a brave and determined fighter, always willing to face challenges head-on. Her life’s motto was “Here we go laughing and scratching.” She is deeply missed and will be lovingly remembered.
