Stephen “Steve” Howard Moellering passed away on March 25, 2023 in Falls Church, Virginia at the age of 77.
Steve was born to Armin and Gertrude Moellering on September 14th,1945 in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1949 his family moved to Palisades Park, New Jersey where Steve graduated from high school. Steve went on to graduate from Johns Hopkins University in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. He then attended Law School at New York University until 1969, when he was drafted into the Army to serve in the Vietnam War. After returning from Vietnam, Steve earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Catholic University.
On April 17, 1971 Steve married Dolores “Dee” Gasta in Virginia. They remained married for 41 years until Dee’s passing in 2012.
Steve was a devoted husband, father, and grandparent. He read voraciously, loved exploring all manner of ideas and perspectives, and engaged all those he met with openness and wit. His spiritual outlook led him to work with a variety of non-profit entities in Arlington and Washington, D.C., where he developed and ran programs related to special needs and adult literacy. His last "job" was tutoring students in the school at Our Savior Lutheran Church
Steve is survived by his two children Gretchen (Frank) Dimina and Erik (Heidi) Moellering, his three grandchildren Mia, Frankie, and Arlo, as well as his sister Linda Moellering.
A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Sunday April 2, 2023 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Arlington, Virginia.
