Edwin Keith Fields was born on July 9, 1963 to Joseph and Bertha Fields in Petersburg, VA. Edwin accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Springfield Baptist Church, in Sutherland, VA. He received his formal education in the Petersburg Public School System and was a proud graduate of Petersburg High School, where he excelled in math and studied electronics. After graduation, Edwin joined the United States Air Force. Using the skills he learned in school and from watching his father, Edwin served as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic during his tenure and was stationed in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Alaska. Edwin also played on various Air Force basketball teams in his spare time.

Upon being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Edwin returned to Petersburg to attend Virginia State University (VSU). After obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Edwin moved to the Northern Virginia area to pursue his career in computer programming. It was during this time that he met and married Tonya Harris. The marriage, which ended in divorce, produced two children, who Edwin believed were his greatest accomplishments.

While enjoying a successful career as a programmer/analyst with various companies in the Washington, DC area, Edwin was bit by the entrepreneurial bug. It was his dream to help revitalize his hometown. As such, he began buying blighted properties in Petersburg. After renovating several homes, Edwin turned them into rental properties which currently house several VSU students.

Edwin K. Fields departed this life on Sunday, October 8, 2017, after a short battle with cancer. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Ryan P. Fields and Shelby M. Fields of Falls Church, VA, his parents Joseph Fields and Bertha Fields of Petersburg, VA, his brother Kevin Fields of Petersburg, his two sisters Mercedes Fields and Sherita Fields of Petersburg, his ex-wife, Tonya H. Fields of Falls Church, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
